   Proposal Description:
   Our overall goal aim is to explore why depression has been associated with increased risk of Alzheimer?s Dementia (AD) in older adults.                   We will determine if depression is truly an independent risk factor for AD  following adjustment for several important covariates. We will focus upon risk factors that are potentially modifiable and could be included in future preventive interventions.   We will determine if risk factors for AD differ by sex and if sex moderates risk of depression upon AD.   We will adjust for more known and emerging risk factors for AD than has been     completed in previous studies.    Expected outcomes: We will gain a greater understanding of mechanisms linking depression with increased risk of AD. We will also gain a greater understanding how these risks differ between males and females. This knowledge will then inform future preventive interventions.
